The courses offered by Tayflite are as follows:

* The Instrument Rating (IR)
* Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL(A))
* Multi-Engine Class Rating (MECR)
* Flight Instructor Courses (FIC), including upgrade to ME Instructor,
* IR Instructor, Aerobatics Instructor

The Instrument Rating
The aim of the course is to train the student to safely and effectively command an aeroplane (single or multi-engine) under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) with an approach to land down to a minimum decision height of 200ft (60m).

The course for a multi-engine IR(A) entails 55 hours of instruction in instrument flying which is divided into 40 hours in the Flight and Navigation Procedure Trainer (FNPTII) and 15 hours in our Seneca II aircraft.

Students holding a CPL(A) issued in accordance with ICAO may have the training course reduced by 5 hours, which must be taken off the time on the FNPTII. Students holding an IR(H) may have the training course reduced to 10 hours as a minimum.

UK License holders with a UK IMC Rating may have the training course reduced by 12 hours where training and testing are completed by 30 June 2002. Note that this is not in addition to the 5 hour reduction for a CPL holder.

The CPL(A)
The aim of the course is to train PPL(A) holders to the level of proficiency necessary for the issue of a CPL(A) for a UK or JAR Commercial Pilot’s Licence.

The flight training requirements for applicants without an Instrument Rating comprises a minimum of 25 hours of dual flight instruction, including 10 hours of instrument instruction. Applicants with a valid Instrument Rating will require a minimum of 15 hours dual flight instruction under Visual Flight Rules.

Applicants without a Night Rating will have the option of completing the required training at the same time as the Modular CPL(A) course, with an additional 5 hours night flight.

The Multi-Engine Class Rating
The aim of the course is to train the student to the level of knowledge and skill required to safely and effectively command a multi-engine piston aeroplane and to pass the ground examination and the Skill Test for the initial issue of a Multi-engine piston aeroplanes (Land) Class Rating for a UK or JAR Pilot’s Licence.

The ground training requirement is in accordance with JAR-FCL 1.261(a). The course entails a minimum of 7 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction in multi-engine aeroplane operation.

The flight training requirement is in accordance with JAR-FCL 1.261(b). The course entails 6 hours of instruction which shall be flight in a multi-engine aeroplane. This is to include at least 2 hours 30 minutes dual flight training under normal conditions and at least 3 hours 30 minutes of dual flight training in engine failure procedures and asymmetric flight techniques.

The Flight Instructor Course
The aim of the initial course is to train PPL(A) / CPL(A) / ATPL(A) holders to the level of proficiency necessary for the issue of a Flying Instructor (Aeroplanes) Rating for a UK or JAR Pilot’s Licence. The training requirement is in accordance with AMC FCL 1.340. The course comprises theoretical knowledge instruction and flight training. The flight training is a minimum of 30 hours of flight training of which 25 hours shall be dual flight instruction, the remaining 5 hours may be mutual flying (two applicants flying together to practice flight demonstrations). Of the 25 hours, 5 may be conducted in the FNPTII.The ground training consists of 125 hours of instruction and self study covering all the topics of the PPL ground training together with training on instructional techniques, student assessment etc.

The Flight Instructor Upgrades
The course for upgrading to a Multi-engine Flight Instructor comprises theoretical knowledge instruction and flight training. The flight training is a minimum of 5 hours of flight training in an aeroplane and / or the FNPTII, of which 4 hours shall be flight training in asymmetric procedures. The ground training is 25 hours of classroom work to develop the student’s knowledge and understanding required for the instruction of multi-engine flight, with a particular emphasis on asymmetric operation.

Students who are not existing instructors may train for the Class Rating Instructor rating, which requires, in addition to the training above, 35 hours ground training on the core subjects related to Teaching and Learning.

The course for upgrading to an Instrument Rating Instructor comprises theoretical knowledge instruction and flight training. The flight training is a minimum of 5 hours of flight training in an aeroplane and / or the FNPTII. The ground training is 35 hours of classroom work to develop the student’s knowledge and understanding required for the instruction of instrument flight.

Students who are not existing instructors may train for the Instrument Rating Instructor rating. In this case the flight training is a minimum of 10 hours of flight training in an aeroplane and / or the FNPTII. The ground training is 35 hours as above but in addition 35 hours ground training on the core subjects related to teaching and Learning is required.

The course for upgrading to an Aerobatics Instructor comprises theoretical knowledge instruction and flight training. The flight training is a minimum of 5 hours of flight training in an aeroplane. The ground training is 8 hours of classroom work to develop the student’s knowledge and understanding required for the instruction of aerobatics.
